When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.
For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of ¹ú²úÂ×Àí alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.
Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.
If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Students who want to apply for scholarships should visit the scholarship page on the Financial Aid site. You can find the link for the online application here.
The Department of Development does not accept applications for or distribute scholarships. Scholarships are distributed through the University’s Office of Student Financial Aid.

Hoff, David and Linda Endowment for Men's Basketball
The David and Linda Hoff Endowment for Men's Basketball was established by David and Linda Hoff in 2021. David earned an undergraduate degree in Biology from The University of Akron in 1964 and went on to attend medical school at The Ohio State University. In 1971, Dr. Hoff became the first graduate of what was then known as the Akron City Hospital Family Practice Residency Program (now the Summa Health System Family Practice Residency Program). Upon completing his residency, Dr. Hoff established the United States Air Force's first Family Practice Residency Program in Washington, D.C. In 1973, he returned to Akron to serve as the associate director of Akron City Hospital's Family Practice Residency Program, later serving as its director for 13 years. Dr. Hoff is also a co-founder of Faithful Servants Care Center, a free urgent care for the uninsured. He Is a 2020 recipient of the Family Medicine Legacy Award, presented by Summa Health.
Linda is a 1965 graduate of The University of Akron, also earning a degree in Biology. Dr. and Mrs. Hoff are residents of Tallmadge, Ohio and have three children, nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Dr. and Mrs. Hoff are long-time fans of Zips athletics, holding season tickets to men's basketball games for decades while also generously supporting the program. The David and Linda Hoff Endowment for Men's Basketball will serve to meet the greatest needs of the men's basketball program at The University of Akron.
Use of available funds will be determined by the Director of Athletics in collaboration with the Head Men's Basketball Coach to enhance the ¹ú²úÂ×Àí men's basketball program.
