Named scholarships & funds

When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.

For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of ¹ú²úÂ×Àí alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.

Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.

If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Wayne College Academic Achievement Scholarship

The Wayne College Academic Achievement Scholarship was originally established as The Wayne College Honors Scholarship in 2001. It was renamed to The Wayne College Academic Achievement Scholarship to avoid confusion with awards associated with the Williams Honors College.

The University of Akron Wayne College is an educational and cultural hub for Wayne County and the surrounding region. Student success is achieved through excellent teaching with an emphasis on individualized attention. We prepare our students for further educational pursuits, career success and lifelong learning. To achieve this mission, ¹ú²úÂ×Àí Wayne College will:

  • Provide affordable access to The University of Akron's bachelor's and master's degree programs, technical associate degrees and general education coursework;
  • Contribute to the community's lifelong learning landscape by offering both credit and non-credit opportunities;
  • Remain the region's open-access option for students to complete developmental coursework to prepare for admission to The University of Akron;
  • Provide programming on-site at our beautiful Orrville campus, online or at one of several regional campuses throughout Northern Ohio; and
  • Extend programming and support services to the students served by our regional campus in Medina and by regional high schools through the College Credit Plus (CCP) program.

The Wayne College Academic Achievement Scholarship will be awarded to undergraduate full- or part-time regional campus students (Wayne College or Medina County University Center) with a high school or college Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.0. Preference should be given to students with a 3.4 GPA or better at the high school level. The scholarship may be renewable if conditions continue to be met. The number of recipients and scholarship amounts may vary as funds are available.

Funds will be distributed at the discretion of the University Scholarship Committee in the Office of Student Financial Aid.
