Named scholarships & funds

When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.

For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of ¹ú²úÂ×Àí alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.

Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.

If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

True Wealth Design Scholarship for Financial Planning

The True Wealth Design Scholarship for Financial Planning was established in 2022 by Kevin Kroskey '01, '05, founder and managing partner of True Wealth Design. Kroskey created the scholarship, as well as an internship opportunity, to assist students pursuing undergraduate degrees in financial planning at The University of Akron, much like he had been supported during his college years.

Kroskey's desire in opening True Wealth Design in 2007 was to make a substantial, positive difference in the lives of his clients and employees, as well as the communities where they live and work. True Wealth Design strives to help clients Plan Smarter and Live Better.™ With an uncommon and deep expertise in retirement, tax, and investment planning, the firm provides complete integration of a client's financial life, giving them the clarity and confidence to pursue their dreams while protecting their family's future.

The True Wealth Design Scholarship for Financial Planning will be awarded to full- or part-time undergraduate students pursuing a financial planning degree at The University of Akron. To be eligible for consideration, students must be in good standing with the University and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. First consideration will be given to students who have demonstrated leadership skills, a strong work ethic, and are involved in extracurricular activities. Additional consideration will be given to students with financial need. The scholarship may be renewable, if students reapply and continue to meet all criteria of the scholarship and requirements of the major.

To further enhance a student's educational experience, Kroskey will invite all scholarship recipients to interview with True Wealth Design for a paid internship, provided positions are available. The opportunity for real-world experience will help ensure ¹ú²úÂ×Àí graduates are prepared to make an immediate impact with their employers.

Students who successfully complete an internship may receive strong consideration for a scholarship, or scholarship renewal, and may be invited to continue the internship. The internship is not a prerequisite for receiving the scholarship.

All scholarship recipients will be selected by the Department of Finance scholarship committee.
