When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.
For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of ¹ú²úÂ×Àí alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.
Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.
If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Students who want to apply for scholarships should visit the scholarship page on the Financial Aid site. You can find the link for the online application here.
The Department of Development does not accept applications for or distribute scholarships. Scholarships are distributed through the University’s Office of Student Financial Aid.

Bevan, Thomas W. Scholarship
The Thomas W. Bevan Scholarship was established in January 2023 by Thomas W. Bevan, a native of Solon, Ohio. The scholarship was created to support students attending The University of Akron School of Law, the place Tom credits for giving him a start in his career.
Tom is a partner/attorney at Bevan & Associates LPA, Inc. One of the largest law firms in northern Summit County, Bevan & Associates is a 55-person firm that concentrates on asbestos litigation and workers' compensation. Tom has been licensed to practice law in the State of Ohio since 1991 and the United States District Court, Northern District of Ohio since 1992. He is the current chair of the Summit County Democratic Party and a board member of the Ohio Association for Justice. Additionally, he is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association, the Akron Bar Association, the American Association for Justice, and the Public Justice Foundation. Tom received his bachelor's degree from Miami University of Ohio and his law degree from The University of Akron School of Law in 1991.
The Thomas W. Bevan Scholarship will award scholarship assistance to a deserving University of Akron School of Law student from Summit County with financial need. Special consideration should be given to students who have demonstrated experience in or commitment to working with historically underserved or underprivileged populations. Recipient selection will be made by the School of Law Scholarship Committee or the Dean.
