Named scholarships & funds
When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.
For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of ¹ú²úÂ×Àí alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.
Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.
If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Busson Family Endowed Engineering Scholarship
The Busson Family Endowed Engineering Scholarship was established in 2023 by Mr. Donald Busson for the purpose of providing scholarships assistance to engineering students based on financial need.
Donald Busson grew up in a modest household in the Akron area. His father supported him and his 11 siblings, five of which attended The University of Akron, by working at BF Goodrich as a tire builder. Donald’s college education was made possible through scholarships from The University of Akron and the National Electrical Contractors Association.
As an electrical engineering student, Army ROTC cadet, and through the cooperative education program, Donald gained valuable experience that led to a successful career designing secure information systems for both the government and private industry, eventually becoming a partner at Booz Allen Hamilton, a global consulting firm.
Donald Busson retired in 2008 and currently resides in Durango, Colorado, and San Diego, California. He keeps himself busy maintaining his ranch, which gives him immense pleasure.
Mr. Donald G. Busson and his family will continue to support The Busson Family Endowed Engineering Scholarship, ensuring that future generations of students have the opportunity to achieve their educational goals.
The Busson Family Endowed Engineering Scholarship was established as part of We Rise Together, the Campaign for The University of Akron.
The Busson Family Endowed Engineering Scholarship will assist students pursuing a degree in engineering at The University of Akron. Eligible students must maintain a 3.0 GPA and have financial need.
