Named scholarships & funds
When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.
For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of ¹ú²úÂ×Àí alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.
Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.
If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

He was very active in his retirement years as a long-term care ombudsman and volunteer in area nursing homes, especially the Village of St. Edward.
Jane E. Laundrie (nee Voigt) was born in 1919 in Sandusky, Ohio. She and Robert were married in 1942. After Robert’s service in WWII, the family moved to Akron. Mrs. Laundrie’s avocation of volunteerism began when she became room mother for her daughter’s kindergarten class and continued until her retirement. Jane was an inspiration to others through her passion for volunteerism. He also earned an M.P.A. from Pennsylvania State University and is a Certified Public Accountant. He spent his career in the high tech industry in Silicon Valley. Roberta and Patrick have two adult children, Gail and Kent. They became proud grandparents with the birth of their first grandson, Gavin Kent, during the summer of 2009. Education and public service are very important to their family.
