Named scholarships & funds
When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.
For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of ¹ú²úÂ×Àí alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.
Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.
If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Vasko, Jennifer Memorial Scholarship in Nursing
The Jennifer Vasko Memorial Scholarship in Nursing was established in 2014 by her mother, Sandra Vasko ’82. The scholarship honors Jenny’s selfless spirit and commitment to the nursing profession. As a nurse, Jenny distinguished herself by giving exemplary and dedicated care to her patients. Beyond her high standard of professional care, Jenny felt that nursing was her true calling in life and always made time to share a kind word or spend an extra moment at a bedside, helping a patient through a moment’s crisis. Her paramount concern was always the top-tier care of her patient. It is a trait for which Jenny will be forever remembered.
In that spirit, The Jennifer Vasko Memorial Scholarship in Nursing will support future nurses in meeting the same standard of excellence, showing compassion for those in their care.
The Jennifer Vasko Memorial Scholarship in Nursing will be awarded at the beginning of each academic session to nursing students able to graduate with a degree in nursing upon the completion of the session. Currently there are three sessions, including spring, summer, and fall. Jennifer Vasko Scholarship recipients will evidence a passion for patient care and have demonstrated financial need. Scholarship recipients will be selected ¹ú²úÂ×Àí Scholarship Committee in consultation with College of Nursing faculty. The scholarship recipients will be known as Jennifer Vasko Scholars.
