Named scholarships & funds
When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.
For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of ¹ú²úÂ×Àí alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.
Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.
If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Drumm, Don and Lisa Scholarship for The Mary Schiller Myers School of Art
Don and Lisa Drumm are dedicated advocates and benefactors for arts education, demonstrating their support across many sectors of the greater Akron region. Educating students has always been a key priority for the couple as they demonstrated in 2006 through their establishment of The Don and Lisa Drumm Scholarship for The Mary Schiller Myers School of Art. At their request, the scholarship was re-purposed in August 2021, from an endowed fund to an annual fund.
A scholarship bearing the Drumm name in the School of Art is fitting and appropriate, given their history not only in the local arts community, but worldwide as well. Don Drumm, an internationally recognized sculptor and pioneer craftsman, adopted the sun as his favorite medium, working in aluminum, pewter, and other metals. His international reputation is shared by Lisa Drumm, a former teacher and recognized artist. Together, they have enriched the Northern Ohio landscape with their artistic endeavors, community involvement, and philanthropic activities.
Recipients of The Don and Lisa Drumm Scholarship for the Mary Schiller Myers School of Art shall be freshman students enrolled full time in The University of Akron's Mary Schiller Myers School of Art. Preference shall be given to Akron Public School system graduates. The selected student(s) must have demonstrated both artistic talent and a financial need. Recipient selection will be made by the School of Art's Faculty Scholarship Committee.
