When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.
For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of ¹ú²úÂ×Àí alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.
Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.
If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Students who want to apply for scholarships should visit the scholarship page on the Financial Aid site. You can find the link for the online application here.
The Department of Development does not accept applications for or distribute scholarships. Scholarships are distributed through the University’s Office of Student Financial Aid.

Basora, Ryan C. Endowed Memorial Scholarship in the School of Communication
The Ryan C. Basora Endowed Memorial Scholarship in the School of Communication was established in 2013 in loving memory of Ryan by his family, friends, and particularly his parents, Joseph and Rhea Basora.
Ryan graduated in 2010 from The University of Akron School of Communication with a bachelor’s degree in mass media communication. While attending the University, Ryan made the Dean’s List numerous semesters, was active in WZIP Power Talk, and was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity, which honored him with numerous awards, including The Character Award and Brother of the Year Award. Ryan also actively led philanthropic efforts at ¹ú²úÂ×Àí, particularly with Ronald McDonald House, Relay for Life, and Ride for Red. Growing up with a love for many sports, Ryan excelled in football and baseball at Boardman High School.
Ryan's life was exemplified by sincerity and commitment, which he openly demonstrated to his loving family and friends. He enthusiastically encouraged others to attain their greatest potential and willingly invested time inspiring them to champion their strengths and be their very best. The memories of Ryan's genuine love for life and comic sense of humor will always be held close in the hearts of all who knew him and serve as a loving tribute to all he gave throughout his life.
The Ryan C. Basora Endowed Memorial Scholarship in the School of Communication was established to support full-time students enrolled in the School of Communication at The University of Akron. Preference will be given to those students involved with the University’s fraternity or sorority communities. The recipient will be selected by the Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences School of Communication, in cooperation with the Office of Student Financial Aid.
