Named scholarships & funds
When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.
For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of ¹ú²úÂ×Àí alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.
Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.
If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Fresh Studios Scholarship Fund
While working to obtain his undergraduate degree in International Business, Paul Patterson began developing a small business of his own in Akron. With the skills he learned in the classroom at The University of Akron, Mr. Patterson opened the doors of his production studio, Fresh Studios in March 2009.
Fresh Studios has become a safe, alternative environment for neighborhood kids. The message given is one of community respect and giving back. Mr. Patterson is adamant about higher education and has assisted individuals with the completion of college and financial aid applications. As a first-generation college student himself, he recognizes the challenges young adults face without the support from home.
The recipient of the Fresh Studios Scholarship must be enrolled at The University of Akron (part or full-time) and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5. Applicants should provide a narrative explaining the need for financial assistance, or "two good reasons" to be considered. Mr. Patterson will review all scholarship applications and determine the recipient(s).
