Named scholarships & funds
When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.
For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of ¹ú²úÂ×Àí alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.
Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.
If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Van Dine, Robert H. and Janice E. Scholarship
The Robert H. and Janice E. Van Dine Scholarship was established in March 2023. The Van Dines created the scholarship to assist current University of Akron students because they strongly believe the education Bob ('71) received as an undergraduate at the University allowed him to easily complete his master's program and best prepared him for a successful career. Bob and Jan enjoy living an active and adventurous lifestyle, mainly through dancing, skiing, biking, camping, and travelling. They are extremely involved in the Asheville, North Carolina, community as volunteers for the city. They have two loving daughters and four grandchildren.
The Robert H. and Janice E. Van Dine Scholarship supports deserving full- or part-time graduate or undergraduate students in The LeBron James Family Foundation School of Education. Recipients will be selected ¹ú²úÂ×Àí Scholarship Committee in the Office of Student Financial Aid with preference given to students who have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 and are involved in extracurricular activities.
To make a tax-deductible gift to this scholarship, please visit ¹ú²úÂ×Àí’s . Select “A different designation” from the drop-down menu and enter “Van Dine Scholarship” in the text box. Thank you!
