Named scholarships & funds
When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.
For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of ¹ú²úÂ×Àí alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.
Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.
If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Ohio Rubber Group Graduate Student Award
The Ohio Rubber Group (ORG) has a long tradition of supporting The University of Akron. The organization, concerned about the shortage of polymer scientists and polymer engineers in Northeast Ohio and nationally, has adopted a proactive, revised strategy to confront this need and encourage local and state employment within the rubber industry.
The Ohio Rubber Group Graduate Student Award will provide for up to four student awards of $2,000 per academic year. A deserving student from either Polymer Science or Polymer Engineering will be selected. To qualify, students must be full-time doctoral students in their third year of study, or beyond, with a minimum GPA of 3.5. Preference will be given to U.S. residents or permanent residents. An applicant is required to submit with the application, an official transcript, current vita, a letter of recommendation from a faculty member familiar with the student’s academic performance and research experience and interest, as well as a one-page essay indicating why he or she should be selected to receive an ORG award and describing his or her research. The recipients of the ORG award are encouraged to attend local ORG technical meetings and may be asked to share their research with the members. Award winners will be selected by the Ohio Rubber Group with assistance from the University of Akron’s College of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering.
