Named scholarships & funds

When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.

For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of ¹ú²úÂ×Àí alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.

Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.

If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The University of Akron, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

International Business and Law Endowed Scholarship/Award

The International Business and Law Endowed Scholarship/Award was established in October 2017 by Douglas L. Talley and April R. Talley.  Mr. Talley earned his Juris Doctor degree from The University of Akron School of Law in 1984, and Mrs. Talley earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from ¹ú²úÂ×Àí in Mass Media Communication in 1982.

Mr. and Mrs. Talley established The International Business and Law Endowed Scholarship/Award to assist with ¹ú²úÂ×Àí’s efforts to recruit and educate students with an international interest or background.  They hope this scholarship will encourage the study of international business and/or law.

The International Business and Law Endowed Scholarship/Award will provide scholarship assistance directly to student accounts to cover expenses such as tuition and fees.  Other funding, not applied to a student’s account, may be used to provide study abroad awards for students. Study abroad awards may cover the cost of travel expenses, room and board, and other program costs.

Consideration for the scholarship/award will be given to one or more undergraduate or law students with a demonstrated interest in international business and/or law.  The scholarship may be awarded to U.S. students intending to work in international business and/or law, or to international students enrolled in ¹ú²úÂ×Àí degree programs.  Preference should be given to students interested in European business and/or law, particularly with a focus on Italy.

Recipient selection and scholarship/award amounts will be determined annually by the University’s international recruitment staff after consultation with the College of Business Administration, School of Law and the Williams Honors College.
