Visco elected Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE)
, professor of Chemical, Biomolecular, and Corrosion Engineering at The University of Akron (¹ú²úÂ×Àí), has been elected as a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (). He received this honor for his significant professional accomplishments and contributions in chemical engineering.
Fellow is AIChE's highest grade of membership and is achieved only through election by the AIChE Board of Directors, generally upon the recommendation of the AIChE Admissions Committee through whom all nominations for election to Fellow are processed.
Fellows are an important resource for AIChE in providing experience-based guidance to leadership and members, as well as contributing to the activities of many AIChE entities. AIChE is the world's leading organization for chemical engineering professionals, with more than 60,000 members from more than 110 countries.
“I am delighted to learn that Dr. Visco has been elected as an AIChE fellow, which is widely recognized as the highest honor in the field of chemical engineering,” said Dr. Jie Zheng, professor and chair of the Department of Chemical, Biomolecular, and Corrosion Engineering. “This is truly a momentous achievement.”
Dr. Visco has been with The University of Akron since 2011. His research interests include computer-aided molecular design, virtual high-throughput database screening, thermodynamics, and education. His grant efforts have resulted in more than $8M (as PI/co-PI) from national, state, and industrial sources. He has published nearly 90 papers in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings, and has contributed to more than 100 presentations/posters at conferences in support of his research and education efforts. Among other honors, he is a Fellow of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) and won the American Institute of Chemical Engineers Award for Service to Chemical Engineering Education.
Visco has served as AIChE Education Division Chair, ASEE Chemical Engineering Division Chair, and is currently a Commissioner to the ABET EAC via his service on the AIChE Education & Accreditation Committee. He has co-authored a textbook for undergraduates called Fundamentals of Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics and is the editor of Chemical Engineering Education, the premier journal targeting educators in chemical engineering.
