Springtime Adventures - where to explore when the weather warms up

Spring has sprung! The snow and frigid cold are a distant memory. With the weather warming up and the sun shining, it's time to embrace the season and dive into all the fun activities that exist in and around Akron. From beloved traditions to exciting adventures, here are six fantastic things to do this spring.


Everyone’s favorite spring tradition is fast approaching, SpringFest is Friday, May 3 from 4- 8 p.m. Luckily for you, SpringFest is near the top of the Zips 100 list: #2. Experience the vibrant atmosphere of SpringFest. Make sure to pick up your $10 voucher during the week of SpringFest at the Department of Student Life desk. Only 1,500 total vouchers will be passed out, and only 350 will be passed out per day. So, mark your calendars, grab your friends, and get ready to indulge in the ultimate SpringFestexperience. Food, fun and freebies await!

Get ready to step up to the plate because America's beloved pastime is back in action! The new season of the , the double-A affiliate team of the Cleveland Guardians, has officially begun. Stroll on down to Canal Park and cross off #5. Attend a RubberDucks game.

Although the is open year-round, it’s always nice to enjoy it when the weather is nice. Stop monkeying around and find some friends and make your way over to #10. Visit the Akron Zoo. The Zoo is home to over 1,000 different animals, so you’re bound to see your favorite ones!

As the weather is getting nicer, you’ll find yourself walking around campus more frequently. On your next walk past the College of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering, stop and complete #11. Snap a selfie in front of the rock candy sculpture. This was created for ¹ú²úÂ×Àí by artist Dale Chihuly, representing the convergence of science and art. Did you know that every state-funded project, it is required that 1% of the total appropriation is allocated for the acquisition, commissioning and installation of artwork? This is how the rock candy sculpture came to be!

In a rush to get somewhere? Grab a and zip on over to your destination. You’ll see the scooters scattered around campus all year, and nothing beats riding around and basking in the warm spring sun. Cross #16. Ride a Spin scooter off your Zips 100 list today!

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! #48. Get a scoop from Chill and Indulge Artisan Ice Cream and Fine Chocolates. A sweet treat is always the right move, but ice cream and good weather are the perfect pair. At , you’ll find over 30 flavors of ice cream and sorbet. This Akron staple is just a short walk from campus located downtown, right across from Lock 3.
