Project Eligibility & Description

Eligibility

Applicants must be employed as a licensed teacher or administrator by one of the participating school districts. Preference will be given to early childhood and elementary teachers.

Non-native speakers of English must meet English proficiency requirements with a minimum score of 79 on the internet-based TOEFL.

Project Description

Through a grant from the , The University of Akron is offering training for teachers and administrators from eligible Northeast Ohio districts, who work with English learners.

Teachers/administrators complete the full Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) endorsement over the course of one year.

Completing the 19 credits along with passage of the test for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages is required to add the TESOL endorsement to your credentials.

Total of 19 credits

  • Summer - 8 credits
  • Fall - 6 credits
  • Spring - 5 credits

Program Benefits

If accepted into the program, the grant will pay the associated Ohio resident tuition and most of the fees for the TESOL courses.
